What Do I Feel After Watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica?
Bad. Very bad. I don't really know why, but I feel very gloomy today. Maybe it's because of the anime, or because of the sleep deprivation after marathon-watching it last night, or maybe it's because the fact that I can't talk to anyone about this anime. It's holiday, so I can't go to school and talk it with my friend (not "friends"). I didn't think it would be so hard to have a hobby that nobody else close to you have.
And now, for the actual review. If you like anime, you all must know this one, right? Just like what the title says, it's a story about magical girls. However, many people said that this anime is "dark". This is a story about the dark side of magical girls. This is a thriller where all the main characters are cute girls with magical powers... something like that.
There is a long story before I watched this anime. It all started with the top 100 position of this anime in MAL (actually I don't really care anything beyond the #30 rank, but whatever). Then strangely I see many people recommended this anime. Just to satisfy my curiousity, I looked up some article about the best magical girl animes in the internet (actually I don't remember watching any magical girl anime so I'm still a newbie). And Puella Magi Madoka Magica always shows up. Then one day I asked my "otaku" friend, and he said, "It's not really good. There are better magical girl animes out there." So, I approached this anime with mixed expectation.
Then I watched the first episode, then the second. It looks just like a usual magical girl show, but it felt like there was something wrong. Then, at the third episode, it began to show its darkness (sorry, I don't want to spoil anything). After that, each episode is darker than the previous to the point that only psycopath movie can rival its darkness. Probably, the most shocking is the final episode. There aren't much story that end like that. It's mindblowing. No wonder why some people don't like it.
About the art... well the characters are typical cute girls that you usually find in anime. The graphics are pretty much amazing (particularly the lighting). But the witches scenes... what the hell are the meaning of those shits?
About the music, well actually I don't really understand how to judge a music. I can't even tell you why Für Elise is better than Heavy Rotation (I think that's what most critic will say). But it is certainly enjoyable. The characters are not bad. But, it might feel uncomfortable to see the main character doing nothing until the very end (but once she do, it's fucking incredible!).
That's why I gave it a 10/10 rating. It's subjective, though. If I were judging objectively, I wouldn't give any 10/10 rating because nothing is perfect. 10/10 for me is simply a "YOU MUST WATCH THIS!" statement.
That concludes this twisted blog post of mine. I still can't believe that I didn't talk to anyone about this awesome thing. Well that's... that's why I made this blog from the beginning. I just want to say what's in my mind, and I hope someone will listen. That's it.
Thank you for reading!
